As part of another project that we worked on along with the New York State Dept. of Environmental Conservation (DEC), we completed this playground at Meacham Lake Campground. Campers at Meacham Lake are provided with a wide open view of a truly undeveloped area and can often hear the Loon calling in early morning and late evening. Aside from a fishermen’s paradise, the campground has an activities area complete with Environmental Interpreters, volleyball, horseshoes, bathing beach, and now a kids playground! Meacham Lake Campground is located on the north and west shores of Meacham Lake in the Adirondacks. The campground represents the only development of this 1,203 acre lake. The campground is in a very scenic area, surrounded by the northern mountains and extensive tracts of Wild Forest state land. All types of camping units can be accommodated from small tents to large recreational vehicles. The west side offers primitive and walk-in sites, while the main campground will accommodate both tents and RVs.
We designed a customized Dreamin’ Really Big in a modified “T” layout to nestle within the trees. In so doing we’ve created a “hybrid” or balance between the innocent, natural adventure of playing in the forest and the structure required in todays children’s spaces. We have been building natural playgrounds since long before it was trendy. And we have always understood that natural, renewable materials are far greener than powder coated steel and plastics.
Not all equipment may be appropriate for all children, even when designed for a target age group. To avoid injury you should closely supervise and participate in the child’s use of this equipment, especially while learning to use it. Proper supervision is required.
