In 1944, the Methodist Conference formed a committee to build a permanent campus for youth ministry. They acquired 47 acres in Leesburg in 1946 and began fundraising to build a camp on the shores of Lake Griffin. The first buildings were constructed in 1948, and in 1949, summer residential camping began. Warren Willis served as the camp’s first director, and it grew to become one of the premier Methodist camps in the country.
